Have you tried to do something recently and discovered an internal resistance? How did you deal with it? What happened? What did you learn from these experiences?

In this article I will try to explore some of the strategies that people have tried in the past and maybe you might be able to add to the list.

Some individuals simply ignore some of these internal hindrances and maybe justify their decision to ignore, by saying that they could not make themselves do what they did not want to do. I have observed that this strategy reduces the opportunity to learn and grow through experience.

Another favourite strategy is to allow others to do it for you. I think that this method needs to be used with care. The person who completes the task is the one that benefits from the experience of unblocking the internal resistance to action. I am not advocating the absence of delegation of tasks but I think you need to ensure that certain tasks are completed by you, so that you might continue to learn and grow.

Recently as I continued to read and find out about how others have solved this problem I stumbled into another tool for removing resistance to action- face the situation and explore the issues surrounding your resistance.

Sitting at the computer at this moment to write this article was due to one of those self exploration moments.

When you meet with mental resistance next time, try exploring the issues surrounding it. You might find the motivation to go on.

Enjoy your journey in self development.

There is a link between self talk and optimum performance. While I was thinking about this I felt the urge to share with you again. It is a pleasure to be back at the computer to share part of my recent journeys and tools that have helped me along the way. Do you know what I have discovered? I have discovered that you are likely to learn more from my mistakes than the story of my successes. That does not mean that I will not come to you to sing and celebrate my successes but I will also share the challenges and the way that I worked within the confines of the situations that I found myself and turned them around.

The most important lesson that I have learnt recently is the significance of choosing the perspective that would build you up, in every situation. The perspective that you adopt will determine the level of energy, motivation and commitment to actions.

Have you ever stumbled across a great barrier to achievement called “Lack of motivation?” In the past, you may have adopted the attitude of the manager committed to getting the correct response, by screaming at yourself and maybe giving yourself a long lecture on reasons for working with determination and commitment to excellence. When you adopt this approach you are likely to find yourself being swallowed up by the events around you.

Suddenly you will find you are at a crossroad. You need to find another way to change your attitude or you might self destruct. Your search for freedom might take you to different books and a variety of ideas. Have you ever been in a situation where you felt you might be suffering from information overload? Although this situation might seem slightly daunting, you might be sufficiently aware of this fact, as long as you keep searching, you will find the key to releasing yourself from the trap of lack of motivation. Let me share with you a tool.

Firstly, think through the likely reasons for your lack of motivation. One of the strongest reasons for lack of motivation is your memory of past failures and setbacks. These memories are likely to be holding you back.
Secondly, choose to revisit the place where you experienced these negative feelings in the past, but this time round, choose a supportive perspective about the situation. Choose to say these words to yourself- “Well done for all the effort that you have been making to improve on your performances in this area of your life. I am really proud of you. Listen, the fact that the organisation felt that you had failed does not make you a failure. It simply reveals an area where you need to learn something new. Failure and setbacks are indicators of success and so should be greeted with an awareness of their benefits. I am willing to take a risk. I know that one moment of success will wipe away years of setbacks and failures. “

Instantly, you will experience a release from the lack of motivation and a surge of energy to try and try again. I hope you find this self talk helpful on your journey. I am still on the journey and I cannot wait for the next opportunity to use the same tool to lighten my journey and ensure that failures and setbacks produce the benefits that help me to achieve my goals.
Enjoy your journey to optimum performance,

There are definitely great laws that govern our life experiences whether we like it or not. Have you found any of these recently? I have, and I want to tell you about some of them.
Recently, I discovered the importance of choosing your perspective in every situation with care. By the choices that you make, you define the outcome of your search for success. I have always been a very positive individual and recently something happened to me. I chose to become my own worst critic. This action drove me to near distraction. Shall I say to all my readers, “It can be a destructive strategy, if it is not handled with care?” You can talk yourself into despair and disaster. Watch out for the feeling of being a critic to self and only wanting the best for you, when all that you are doing is actually destroying yourself.

Furthermore, let me tell you something, if you criticised your best friend the way you are doing to yourself, you will lose him/her. Why do you think you will get a different outcome, when you do it to yourself? I will suggest, for every criticism you give to yourself be ready to give nine compliments. You need to continue to believe in the power that you have to change the experiences of your life. Be a supportive critic. If you really want the best for yourself, join the band of supporters of all that is good and worthy of commendation in your life, then you will always be in a position to help and direct each enterprise that you are involved in, to a successful outcome.
Consequently, I want to express my thanks to all the readers of the articles that I have published. Your gift of sharing your appreciation for what I do, has motivated me to sit at the computer this morning, to give this insight to life. You are part of my success story and from you, I am learning the second principle- it is important that you learn to give away that which you want others to give to you. If you would like to be rewarded for the services that you provide for others, take every opportunity to reward others for the services that they are offering to you, at a fair price. I do not think I understand the implication of this statement; please write to tell me what you think.
Moreover, I think one of the reasons that countries become very successful, is the fact that people are very happy to pay for the product and services that they receive. Your desire to pay is a motivator to the giver of the services. The provider of the services has got bills to pay. I think I should be searching for ways to reward others, for their contribution to building a society full of love and kindness. Can I say a special thank you to all the individuals and groups in our society that are serving others and so making the lives of others better?

So, take every opportunity to express your gratitude to others and if possible be prepared to pay for the services that they offer. This is the good news, when you begin to reward and compliment others, you will be rewarded in kind too!!!!!!!!Do you know what I would like to do; I would like to visit websites to leave a positive comments for the providers of the information on the page. Do you have an idea of how to do this easily?

Finally, I have explored two vital keys to self improvement and success- support yourself and give compliments and rewards to others who are contributing positively to your own life journey. Keep enjoying the journey in self improvement and fulfilment.

The desire for success has remained a dream for most people because they have never stopped to think of the reasons for wanting to be successful. Being able to clearly define and signpost your reasons for committing yourself to success in all that you do, is crucial to being able to hold on to the dream until it materialises; overcoming the challenges on the way and gathering the lessons learnt with thanksgiving; working to improve and build on success and advancing in the achievement of goals specified; ensuring that the journey remains meaningful although all the clues state otherwise; holding on to the dream as a tool for releasing all that is needed for each step of the journey.
I have desired to be successful as a blogger for a while but I have noticed that my commitment keeps waning. I think the reason for this continual loss of momentum, is the fact that Imy reasons for wanting to be a successful blogger are unhelpful. I have tried using the fact that I might be able to make money and become a millionaire as an incentive and motivator for burning the midnight oil, blogging. The problem with this is that my blogging is not making a penny at the moment. Invariably, if money is my sole goal, it does not surprise me that I cannot sustain the momentum required to blog continuously. I think it is time to find a better reason.

My new reason for blogging is to share what I have learnt about life along the way, with the world. I hope that someone will learn from my experience and so live successfully by achieving all their dreams as they apply the tools that I share; I also want to believe that as I accomplish this goal, there is a law that operates naturally to my benefit. Those who give to make others lives better also get enriched by the experience.
I think I do not need to focus on the fact that the goodness that I have shared will release enrichment but rather concentrate on making the lives of others better. What do you think of this idea?

The moment I stumbled on this new reason, the joy of blogging flooded my whole being again. I do not know how long this good feeling will last but I intend to enjoy it while it remains.
Please do not forget to include your comment after reading this blog. I am indebted to my readers for the comments that they share to help me as a blogger and an individual committed to personal development.

At the moment I am feeling very tired and struggling to find a reason to publish the next blog! Have you been where I am in the recent past? How did you find a way around it?

I think it is important that I accept I am not the first person to get to this critical part in the journey to achieving a goal. This is crucial to avoid self pity that produces more issues to cope with in the future. The vital question, I am asking myself at this moment is- “What do I need to do to navigate this challenge succesfully?” I know that in the past I carelessly sweep the issues under the blanket and pretend they do not exist. Another response that I think I have used and have found do not solve the problem or help in the journey to achieving my goal is to stop working on the task at hand. I know two of the strategies that do not work- pretending the situation does not exist or simply giving up. I am setting myself the challenge of trying out a third approach- “Find a reason to go on and report on the outcome on your blog.”

I know that publishing insights into my journey in self improvement definitely allows others to find some vital tools to make their own journey more profitable. I think this is sufficient reason to keep going.

I am inviting all my readers to make their comments about my decisions and ways of ensuring that I continue on this journey.

Allowing yourself to achieve your specified outcome by setting goals and identifying the steps needed to achieve the goal.

I have been away for so many weeks that it feels strange, exciting and extremely special to sit at the computer again, to share some of the experiences that are still exerting such great powers on my view of life. How do you manage the changes around you to ensure that you continually maintain your desire for self improvement and growth?

“Do you know society has changed so much,” said the man on a journey to an adventure island. A fellow tourists said, “Well, that is a fact, but the most important thing is how this change has affected you.” I think this is where I am in my journey and I share the sentiment of both tourists. Society has changed but the issue is closer home than that, how have I been affected by these changes. It is time for each of us to take time out and begin to make some vital decisions that will ensure we end up fulfilling our dreams.

I am convinced that we each bring something into the lives of the people that we meet each day but we need to decide the nature of that something. You will have to decide if you are going to bring a smile or untold misery into the world through your actions. Unfortunately, some people choose to bring misery and hardship. Let me share this with you, what you choose to sow will define your own life experiences and the quality of the people that surround you. There are many individuals today who would do with a smile that will brighten up their way and give them sufficient reason to go on to achieve the best that they are capable of.

The challenge that I have chosen to put on myself as I write this article is to share with all my readers how we can individually and collectively choose to sow goodness deliberately, so that the world will be a better place.

I think being deliberate in our acts of kindness is a very important part of the strategy to sowing goodness into the lives of others. When you choose to sow goodness it becomes something you do in most situations and when you deviate from the norm, you have something to go back to. There seems to be a continual pull to goodness and although you know that you might fail sometimes.

In order to maintain the deliberateness towards sowing acts of kindness in the world, you need to think and plan acts of kindness ahead of situations when they might be needed; think about the nature of the act and the likely effect of these actions on the recipient of the act; reward yourself for taking appropriate actions and always remember that such acts need to be wisely managed.

Enjoy your journey in self improvement.

There was a competition for the “Best Man” in a highly successful organisation. All the great and successful were there, to make sure that they put their contribution to the great debate and hopefully win the competition. A wise man called from the top of the cliff – “Your challenge is to meet me at the top of the hill at sunset, but there is a snag to the competition, there is only one way to solve the problem, by making a human chain.” For the problem to be successfully solved, the group would have to work together, and find other ways of measuring success while satisfying their individual need for self improvement and growth. The group would need to discuss and accept the rules that are built on working as a team to achieve goals.

Learning to work in a team to promote individual and group development is an important part of self development. I have heard the phrase “No man is an island.” But I have never stopped to think of the significance of that to my personal development. As I grow older, as they say “Experience is the best teacher”, I am slowly growing in the appreciation of the gifts that all the people that I meet each day of the week, contribute to my life. Do you know the added bonus to this lavishly enriching attitude to life? It is the fact that the contributions do not necessarily have to be pleasant. For example if a colleague takes a personal dislike to your ways of working; this is likely to cause you huge discomfort but you have a lot to learn from the experience. Be open to the opportunities for growth and change.

Let me allow you a brief visit to my experience and the way others have contributed to my development. I know that the desire to write has been part of my vision for a very long time but I did not know how to go about it until I met a very special friend. She proved invaluable to sparking my creativity and opening the doors that would allow me to blog on the internet. She built a blog spot for me and shared her experience with me through her unique coaching style. This was the breakthrough that I had been waiting for; I finally found the key. Note, the key was delivered through a friend. The fact is this; you can never tell who will be carrying the key to the next most important event in your life so it is worth cultivating each relationship with sensitivity. If you do discover that any relationship is not giving you the benefit that you envisage, it might be time to cut the ties and move on to new ones. Time is very precious and the forming of a network of relationships that promote self development is a priority.

You might be thinking- how do you forge such great relationships? It is important that it begins with caring for yourself. The people that will be drawn to you, are those who like what they see in your life. It seems, individuals are usually guided by their drives to form relationships that would benefit them. Are you the sort of person, that the person that you wish to find, would want to spend time with? If you are not, I think it is time for you to begin to be one. Spend time on developing that attractive inexpensive attitude to life and they would prove invaluable in the future.

Secondly, when you do meet with the person, who you think has something to contribute to your development, choose to spend some time with them. It is the wise thing to do. Relationships take time to forge. Indeed the process passes through a lot of hurdles. There is the initial euphoria of finding a new friend; then there is the testing time- a time to prove if the other person is worth the expenditure in time and energy and finally there is the beginning of a commitment to growth and personal enrichment. When these hurdles have been successfully navigated, then the work begins.

This blog was inspired by a stranger who has been following my blog for a while and then noticed that I had not blogged for a while. The feeling that someone appreciates the thoughts that I had shared in my blog, inspired me to sit at the computer to write about this theme.

Enjoy your journey in self development.

Self Improvement in a creative, calm and ordered environment.

Creativity thrives in a calm mind and an ordered environment. Have you ever thought that being creative means rolling in the chaos created in the moment of complete madness; hyperventilating because your heart is racing outside your body; your eyes rolling in your head like the red eyes of a man being chased in the jungle by a lion; or worse still looking dishevelled because of lack of attention to personal health? You need to know that there are ingredients that need to be present to allow you to be creative. In this article we will be sharing ideas on how to be creative in an ordered environment.

There seems to be a need to learn how to handle the surge of ideas that sometimes proves to be the initial stage of creativity. This stage is a vital stage but needs to be handled with an awareness that the fact that the ideas are being recorded in an uncontrolled way through mind map; writing lists; recording dreams; allowing the mind to make innumerable links through questioning; collecting ideas and putting them together in a big pot, does not mean the absence of order.

Although it is important to avoid being in a hurry to escape from this stage because your ideas need to see the light of day, you need to think of ways of making this stage calm and easy on yourself. You might be thinking that staying at this level is killing your creativity because you are not actually involved in the activities that will take you forward. Do not panic, you are doing a great job. Your mind needs to be emptied of all the great ideas that are running through your head like a runaway train so write them down.

Let me give you a peek into my experience at this stage. I find that the ideas are oozing out of me so fast that the muscles in my hands cannot keep up, so I tend to scribble and sometimes find it difficult . I am slowly learning to tell myself to slow down and to remember that creativity is at its best in a controlled and ordered environment.

Have you noticed that the computer is a tool that allows you to type very fast if you are willing to press each key on the keyboard one at a time? If you choose not to do this, you will have to spend essential time editing your work. The next time you catch yourself being pushed along without control over your mind, speak to yourself, words that reassure you that you are aware of what is happening and that you are determined to remain calm and controlled.

You might say something like this to yourself- “———- , thanks for all those ideas but at the moment I need to calm down so that I record the ideas calmly and in an ordered environment.” Do not forget to put your name in the space.
Enjoy your journey in self development.

The commitment to self improvement could take you to places that you never thought existed within you by compelling you to focus on ways of making the world around you a better place. Our capacity to empathise and respond to the needs of those around us, is one of the tools to self improvement that is yet to be understood my most people.
When you are solely concerned with developing yourself without a care for the needs of those around you, it is easy to develop a lack of balance in your attitude to the world. Let me give you an example, when I thought about developing a higher ability to organise, I needed to ensure that my relationships with those around me would support me.
If a mother chooses to learn organisational skills by developing while caring for her children; the children need to be accepting of the activities that she organises for them. When a manager decides to develop leadership skills, he is dependent on the group that he leads being willing to be led.
Self improvement and thinking about ways of caring for those in your environment are linked. Can you imagine the world that we would create together when we live by this approach? I can feel tears flooding my eyes as I captured this thought for the first time. Self improvement is no longer solely concerned with my interest but also the interest of all the people that are around me.
For a teacher, promoting the welfare of the children that he teaches becomes one of the great ways to promote self improvement. If while being concerned with the learning and teaching in the classroom, the teacher succeeds in gaining the affection of the children that he teaches; the classroom becomes one of the great forums for self improvement.
The concern and commitment of the teacher to serving the needs of the children, enhances interactions in the classroom and promotes self improvement. The next time that you think about self improvement, think about ways of promoting the welfare of your family, organisation and community.
I do not cease to be surprised by the refusal of some people to live by this philosophy. We know better; serving the interest of the group is an effective way to promote self improvement.
Continue to enjoy your journey of self improvement as you serve the world with your skills and abilities.

You need to learn to handle challeging circumstances by responding to the data that are continually revealed by our feelings, thoughts and other sources. When you think of living such a life of simplicity, you might feel your productivity would be limited. Fortunately, the opposite is likely to be the case.

Learning how to handle situations that are outside your control is a very important part of self improvement because life is a journey full of challenges that enable you to grow. Facing your challenges is an important part of this journey. The challenges in your life produce growth and maturity. To ensure that you have continual momentum for change, you need to be mindful of your beliefs of what you think the purposes of the challenges are. When you take a perspective that allows you to optimise the benefits in the experiences, you are living a life ‘without limit’. This perspective will prove crucial in the journey to self improvement by choosing appropriate activities.

This position changes your attitude to your challenges and causes you to settle for nothing less than advancement and growth all the time. Learning to live a ‘no limit’ life is a goal worth pursuing as a means of maintaining continual change and achievements. How can you know this type of life? What must you do so that this becomes your experience in all areas of your life? What has the quality of your commitment to self improvement got to do with this type of life?

Living a ‘no limit’ life in the face of negative feelings requires a change of strategy. It is important that you learn to listen to the information contained in your feelings. Writing down thee ideas ensures that you do not lose these after a short period of time. Catching the ideas needs to be tied to the need to find a solution to the issues raised through engagement in impactful activities.

I think that being able to think through the issues raised with a determination to find a way to solve the problems is the key determinant to the quality of life that we lead daily. We need to understand the situations that require us to make decisions and to align our will and desires to the actions required. One of the greatest challenges facing most of us who are interested in self development is that, of harnessing our gifts and potentials through engaging in impactful activities in unpredictable situations. This is the point where you live a life that fills you with the assurance that you are becoming who you know you want to be.

The ability to link actions to issues raised becomes easier with practise. As you continue to repeat the cycle of behaviour highlighted in this article, the easier it becomes to correctly discern the way forward.

The fact that action will consistently produce a reaction is a natural law. The challenge that faces a ‘no limit’ person is the art of predetermining the possible reaction and consequently putting in the correct action.
